Luke 4:24-30 Daily Gospel Reflection, Prayer, and Devotion for March 13, 2023

Today’s Gospel reading is taken from Luke 4:24-30.

“And he said, “Truly I tell you, no prophet is accepted in his hometown. I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon.”

From Jesus’ words today we can learn that God chooses who He wills to send forth His message. We should never think ourselves unworthy or unrecognized because if God calls us into His service He will equip us with all that we need to succeed.

Daily Gospel Reflection, Prayer, and Devotion for March 13, 2023

Let us pray: Lord God, thank you for calling us despite our imperfections and limited understanding. Bless us with strength of heart so that we may do Your will even if it means facing rejection from those around us. Amen.

Today’s devotion: When we are called by God it is easy to feel overwhelmed and discouraged by rejection from those around us – especially our family and friends. But just as Elijah was sent to minister to a “foreigner” outside of Israel yet still within God’s house, so too can we find comfort knowing that our mission and purpose come directly from the Lord Himself. Let us take comfort and courage in this knowledge as we venture out on our own unique journey of faith.
