Abraham was born in Ur of the Chaldeans and was originally known as Abram. God called him to leave his homeland and travel to a new land that God promised to give him and his descendants. Abraham obeyed God’s call, and he and his wife Sarah (originally named Sarai) journeyed to the land of Canaan.
Despite their advanced age, God promised Abraham and Sarah that they would have a child of their own. After waiting many years, Sarah gave birth to a son named Isaac. Isaac would go on to become the father of Jacob, who was later renamed Israel, and the grandfather of the twelve tribes of Israel.
