Scripture Commentary (Psalm 119:1-8)
In verse one, David calls on us to “bless the Lord” by taking pleasure and delight in His Word. He writes that he finds joy when meditating upon it day and night—an affirmation that it is only through regular engagement with Scripture that we can truly come to understand its teachings and transform our lives accordingly. Verse two reminds us that those who obey God’s commands will find joy, peace, contentment and satisfaction—all things which are lacking if we choose not to live according to His ways. Verses three through eight then go on to emphasize the importance of seeking after knowledge of His commands and walking in His statutes so that our hearts may be made wise unto salvation.
Application For Today
In today’s world it can often be easy forget or ignore the importance of delving into Scripture as we get caught up in the busyness of life. However, this passage serves as an important reminder that true spiritual growth comes from reading and studying God’s Word regularly; only by engaging with its teachings can we hope not just know Him but also live out what He asks us to do! As Christians today, this also serves as an encouragement for us not only read but also seek understanding from scripture; if we do so our hearts will become wise unto salvation! Let us never forget that when faced with difficulties or temptations from the world around us—they will pale in comparison when faced with the promises found within Christ’s word!

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your beautiful word which encourages us not just know You but also teaches us how we should live here on earth! Help us remember the power found within each verse so that even during times of difficulty or temptation from this world we may draw strength from You!
