In today’s gospel lesson, we read about a man who was born blind. Jesus healed him and gave him back his sight. This story reminds us that no matter our circumstances, God can always help us. Continue reading this article for more information. In today’s gospel reading, we see Jesus healing a man on the Sabbath. This is a clear violation of the law of Moses, which prohibited work on the Sabbath. But Jesus doesn’t back down. He continues to teach and heal on the Sabbath, even though it’s against the law. This shows us that even when it comes to laws that are written in stone, Jesus is always willing to break them if it means helping someone in need. Click on the link to learn more.
Bible Background on Mark’s Gospel
In today’s gospel lesson, we read about a man who had a great desire to follow Jesus. This man, named Bartimaeus, was blind and had no hope of ever seeing again. However, when Jesus came to him, Bartimaeus was able to see. This was a great miracle, and Bartimaeus was so grateful that he followed Jesus wherever he went. In today’s gospel reading, we witness Jesus healing a man on the Sabbath. This is a contentious topic, as it could be considered controversial. Some may argue that Jesus was breaking the law by healing on the Sabbath, while others may argue that Jesus was acting in the man’s best interest, suggesting that the law was not meant to be followed rigidly at all times. The story of Jesus’ encounter with the woman at the well is incredibly significant. This week’s Sunday school lesson is based on this event and how it applies to our lives today. Jesus teaches us that we need to actively seek out people who are in need and offer them help in any way we can. We should be ready to assist others, even if we don’t know them, because it’s the right thing to do
God’s Design for Marriage and Family
Scripture: Mark 10:2-16Objective: To teach children God’s perfect plan for marriage and family, and how Jesus values children.
Introduction
Today we’re going to learn about what God says about marriage and family. We’ll see that Jesus teaches us some very important truths from the Bible about these topics.
Bible Lesson
Read Mark 10:2-16 aloud or have students take turns reading verses.
Key Points:
- The Pharisees were trying to test Jesus with a question about divorce.
- Jesus pointed them back to God’s original design for marriage in Genesis.
- God made humans male and female
- A man leaves his parents and is joined to his wife
- The two become one flesh
- Jesus taught that divorce goes against God’s plan for marriage1.
- Marriage is meant to be a lifelong commitment between one man and one woman.
- Jesus welcomed and blessed little children, showing how valuable they are to God.
- We should have childlike faith to enter God’s kingdom3.
Discussion Questions
- Why do you think Jesus talked about how God created marriage in the beginning?
- What does it mean that a husband and wife become “one flesh”?
- How did Jesus show that children are important to God?
- What do you think it means to have faith like a child?
Application
God’s plan for families is for children to have a mom and dad who are married and love each other. This gives kids a stable home. But we know that sin has affected many families. Even if our family doesn’t look like God’s ideal plan, Jesus still loves and welcomes all children. We can trust Him no matter what our family situation is like.
Memory Verse
“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” Mark 10:14b
Closing Prayer
Dear God, thank you for creating marriage and families. Help us to honor your design. Thank you that Jesus welcomes children. Give us childlike faith to trust in you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
