Gospel Reflection on Matthew 28:16-20

In Matthew 28:16-20, we read about the final encounter of Jesus with his disciples before his ascension into heaven. The disciples were instructed to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that Jesus had commanded them. Jesus promised to be with them always, even to the end of the age.

This passage is known as the Great Commission, and it is a call to all Christians to share the good news of Jesus Christ with others. It is a reminder that we are not only called to believe in Jesus but also to share his message with others. We are to make disciples of all nations, not just those who are like us or who live near us. We are to baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything that Jesus has commanded us.

As we reflect on this passage, let us remember that we are called to be disciples of Jesus Christ. We are called to follow him and to share his message with others. Let us pray that we may have the courage and the strength to do so, even when it is difficult or uncomfortable.

Devotional Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ. We thank you for his life, his teachings, and his sacrifice on the cross. We pray that you would help us to be faithful disciples of Jesus, following him wherever he leads us.

Lord, we ask that you would give us the courage and the strength to share the good news of Jesus Christ with others. Help us to be bold in our witness, even when it is difficult or uncomfortable. Give us the words to say and the actions to take that will lead others to you.

We pray for those who have not yet heard the message of Jesus Christ. We ask that you would open their hearts and minds to receive your love and your grace. Help us to be faithful witnesses to them, showing them the love of Christ in all that we do.

Finally, we pray that you would be with us always, even to the end of the age. Help us to remember that you are with us, guiding us and leading us every step of the way. We pray all these things in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
