Anger can be an extremely powerful emotion, and if left unchecked or mismanaged, it can lead to serious negative consequences both in your personal life and professional life. Learning how to effectively manage your anger is the key to avoiding these consequences, but it can be easier said than done – that’s why it’s important to understand what might be causing your issues with anger so you can take steps towards finding a solution.

Identifying Causes of Anger

One of the most important steps in managing anger is recognizing where it’s coming from. Common causes of anger are fear, frustration, hurt, injustice and past unresolved conflicts. Take some time to reflect on the situations that have caused you to become angry in the past – identifying these triggers will help you anticipate them in future situations so that you can prepare better strategies for dealing with them .

Pause and Breathe

When faced with a situation likely to provoke an outburst of anger, take a step back and pause for a few moments before reacting. Take some deep breaths. Doing this helps slow down your heart rate and gives you time to think about how best to respond – often this pause alone is enough for the feeling of rage or blind fury to dissipate into something more manageable .
