How to run a Children’s Ministry?

Running a children’s ministry can seem overwhelming, but with the right tools and strategies it doesn’t have to be! The key to success is planning ahead of time, developing a mission statement, knowing what resources are available, setting goals and objectives, and creating a fun and engaging environment for children.

The first step in running a successful children’s ministry should always be to develop a mission statement. This will help you create goals for your ministry and also give you guidance when making decisions throughout the process. It should encompass what your church stands for, why you’re doing this ministry, who it’s intended for, and what exactly you hope to accomplish by doing it.

Once the mission statement is established, there are several other important steps that need to be taken into consideration before getting started:

  • Know what resources are available to you. This includes volunteers, funds, space or locations in which activities can take place. Knowing what resources are available will help guide your decision making as well as ensure that all potential challenges can be addressed in advance.
  • Developing clear goals and objectives will help make sure that everyone involved knows what they are working toward. This could include things like increasing attendance numbers or providing educational opportunities for children. Make sure these goals are measurable so that progress can be tracked over time.
  • Create an environment that sparks engagement from the kids involved in your ministry. Having activities that keep them engaged will foster an atmosphere of learning instead of just sitting in class all day listening to lectures about religion – this is especially important if there is only one hour per week dedicated to your children’s ministry! Games, art projects or music related activities can go a long way towards making sure everyone has a great time while still learning valuable lessons about faith.
  • Don’t forget about parents!
