How to Build a Church Youth Group

Building a successful youth group at your church can be an incredibly rewarding experience. It’s important, however, that you take the time to plan and prepare for success before launching your youth group. Here are some tips for getting started:

  1. Develop a vision and mission statement. This should include what the purpose of the group is and how it will carry out its mission while adhering to the church’s values and beliefs.
  2. Consult with other church members. Get input from young people who would be potential members as well as adults who have experience with ministry programs or children’s outreach in the past. By gathering advice from others in the congregation, you’ll get insight into how best to establish and grow your youth program in line with everyone’s thoughts and expectations.
  3. Design activities that appeal to young people. Think outside of the box when creating activities and events for young people–especially teenagers! Catering to their interests while also providing spiritual guidance and teaching them about Christianity will make them more likely to stay engaged in your ministry long-term.
  4. Make sure volunteers or staff have appropriate training & qualifications . In order to maintain consistency within programming & keep up-to-date on safety protocols , it’s important for those leading the charge within a youth group setting (whether paid staff or simply volunteers ) are informed of any/all changes which may affect procedures or operations later down the line . Make sure all personnel involved have completed an introduction week of training prior to taking on any responsibilities , so that everyone is familiarized with all related procedures & boundaries set forth by your team prior to operating officially within such an environment .
  5. Establish measurable goals & objectives . Conduct assessments periodically throughout the year in order to measure progress made in meeting pre-defined goals & objectives set forth by yourself or fellow colleagues involved with overseeing activities , evaluate participation levels amongst both students & leaders alike regularly , track attendance rates & run surveys in order gain better understanding of preferred activity types/structures etc., so as increase effectiveness/efficiency within underlying processes/programs available through said youth group altogether moving forward !
  6. Reach out other churches / denominations if needed . Once enough traction has been gained internally , don’t forget there are always opportunities for further growth through networking with external organizations ! Inviting guest speakers from around town or country (depending on distance) provides necessary exposure which may aid greatly towards achieving certain objectives – even inspiring younger members of this group towards joining other ministries like bible study groups etc., down the road if circumstances allow . Connections forged between affiliated churches/ministries will open doors never thought possible – so don’t pass up these chances when they do arise throughout your journey together !
