How many prayers are in the Bible?

According to scholars, there are nearly 400 prayers found in the Bible, representing various moments and occasions when people turn to God in prayer. In the Old Testament, some of the most well-known examples include Hannah’s heartfelt prayer for a child (1 Samuel 1:10–20), Moses’ plea that God would go with them as they journeyed (Exodus 33:12–17), and Solomon’s great prayer at the dedication of the temple (1 Kings 8:22–61). In the New Testament, some of the most popular prayers include Jesus’ “Lord’s Prayer” (Matthew 6:9–13), Paul’s urgent prayer for believers that they would be filled with love (Ephesians 3:14–19), and Jesus’ tearful supplication before His arrest in Gethsemane (Luke 22:39–44). No matter what we face or where our lives take us, God is always near to hear our prayers.
