In Deuteronomy 30:15-20, Moses is speaking to the Israelites and encouraging them to make a wise decision: to choose life by obeying God’s commands. This same message applies to us today—choosing life means listening and following the instructions of our Heavenly Father.
Do you ever have difficulty knowing what path to take? Maybe it’s deciding between two choices at school or home. Perhaps it’s deciding whether or not to do something unwise or disobey your parents. Or maybe it’s choosing between doing what is right and wrong. In all these situations, God has given us a way out—He promises that if we obey Him, we will have life!
Deuteronomy 30:16 tells us not to set our hearts on what is evil, but instead focus on things that are good for us. How can we do this? Think about the times when you don’t feel like doing what’s right—maybe it’s telling a lie in order to avoid punishment, or looking away from someone who needs help because you don’t know them well enough. In moments like these, remember that God wants us to look after each other and live according to His Word so that we can enjoy true life (1 John 5:12).
God also promises that if we follow Him wholeheartedly, He will bless us abundantly (Deuteronomy 30:19). Following His steps isn’t always easy—we might get tired of trying or lose our way at some point—but God will always be there for us! So let’s go back and renew our commitment each day of making the wise decision to choose life by following the loving guidance of God.
Take a moment now and pause before The Lord in prayerful surrender. Ask Him for strength as you make daily decisions; seek His wisdom when in doubt; trust Him with all your heart even when everything else seems uncertain; surrender every aspect of your life fully into His Hands; and rest assured that even when life gets tough, He will never let go of you (Romans 8:39). Amen!
