Matthew 9:35-10:8 Sunday School Lesson for Kids

Introduction

Matthew 9:35-10:8 is a passage that teaches us about Jesus’ mission and how he called his disciples to join him in his work. In this Sunday school lesson, we will explore the meaning of this passage and how it applies to our lives today.

Opening Prayer

Begin the lesson with a prayer thanking God for the opportunity to learn about Jesus and asking for guidance and understanding as we study his word.

Bible Reading

Read Matthew 9:35-10:8 aloud, or have a student read it. Encourage the students to follow along in their Bibles.

Discussion

After reading the passage, ask the students the following questions to encourage discussion and understanding:

  • What did Jesus do in this passage?
  • What did Jesus see when he looked at the crowds?
  • What did Jesus tell his disciples to do?
  • How did Jesus prepare his disciples for their mission?

Explain to the students that Jesus saw the crowds as lost and in need of care, healing, and teaching. He called his disciples to join him in his mission to bring the good news of the kingdom of God to the people. Jesus prepared his disciples by giving them authority to heal and cast out demons, and by instructing them to rely on God’s provision for their needs.

Object Lesson

To help illustrate the meaning of this passage, you can use an object lesson. For example, you can use a basket of fruit to represent the harvest that Jesus talked about. Explain to the students that just as the fruit is ripe and ready to be picked, there are people who are ready to hear the good news of Jesus and become his followers. Just as Jesus called his disciples to go out and gather the harvest, he calls us to do the same.

Application

Ask the students how they can apply the lessons from this passage to their own lives. Encourage them to think about how they can share the good news of Jesus with others and show God’s love to those around them.

Closing Prayer

End the lesson with a prayer thanking God for the opportunity to learn about Jesus and asking for his help in sharing the good news with others.
