What to do when your girlfriend is angry?

How to Handle When Your Girlfriend is Angry

Are you at a loss for how to handle your girlfriend’s anger? Don’t worry – it can be difficult to know what to do when someone you care about is mad. Fortunately, there are some basic steps you can take to help de-escalate the situation and show her that you’re on her side. Read on for some helpful tips about how to handle when your girlfriend is angry.

Acknowledge Her Emotions

The first step in addressing her anger is acknowledging her feelings without making excuses or getting defensive. Letting your girlfriend know that you understand why she may be angry and validating those feelings can go a long way in helping to calm her down. Avoid using language that dismisses or minimizes her emotions; try instead to focus on understanding why she’s upset and reassuring her that you respect those feelings.

Ask Open-Ended Questions

Sometimes when we’re angry, it’s easy to start perpetuating cycles of negative thoughts. To avoid this, asking questions can be an effective way of redirecting the conversation and listening non-judgmentally as your girlfriend vents or expresses herself. Make sure not to ask closed-ended questions like “Do you think this is wrong?” as these limit conversation by making it difficult for your girlfriend to open up further if she wishes to. Instead, ask open-ended questions like “How did this make you feel?” which will encourage her talk more freely and express herself more fully without feeling judged or dismissed by you.

Remain Calm and Focused

No matter what happens, stay focused on the task of helping your partner feel better and remain calm while expressing yourself clearly and assertively. Avoid raising your voice or getting overly animated; instead, use body language such as eye contact, head nodding, and facial expressions that show that you are taking what she says seriously and listening intently without judgment or defensiveness. This will help keep things from escalating too far out of control so that both of you can move forward towards resolution quickly.

Offer Solutions When Appropriate

Once the initial emotions have been acknowledged and listened to thoroughly, offering solutions can be a great way of showing support for your girlfriend while also providing an opportunity for reconciliation between the two of you (if needed). Be mindful not to enforce any solutions onto her; instead, provide suggestions or possible solutions which she may find helpful in resolving any issues between the two of you quickly yet peacefully if necessary. If appropriate, offer reassurances that come from a place of understanding and trust such as “I’m here for whatever you need right now” rather than being overbearing with ideas or advice before it’s asked for directly by your partner.

Take Time Apart if Needed
